About the book (from back cover):
Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she's losing hope.
Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.
Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart.
Review:
The book is about two people that somewhat share the same devastating experience with family loss and how their lives changed after that. Fate plays a big role in the characters. It is the first part of the three-part book series that’s worth reading.
The story is very engaging for me as I am a sucker for romance, it has this bittersweet feeling while reading through the story. I really like Will Cooper, the male character, of how strong he is as a person. He has this immense good character that every girl would wish to have someone like him. He is so loving, mysterious and due to some circumstances he has no choice but to be resistant to his own feelings just to protect his family. I also like Layken, the female character of the book as she is tough on the outside yet so soft and vulnerable on the inside and a very loving daughter and sister. I love the synopsis of this book and how the turn of events are so thrilling.
The book has a lot of lessons to tell and being resilient is one of them. It is definitely worth reading all the series of this book. I would rate it as 4 out of 5.
